National Volunteer Week 2017 - Diane

OCSV LogoTo celebrate all volunteers and to get you thinking more deeply about volunteering we would like to present stories from our own OCSV members as examples of the satisfaction that being a volunteer in your community can bring. The third is from Diane, a relatively new volunteer with the group.

After moving to the island from Calgary two years ago, I met a really nice lady named Shirley. She lived next door to my sister, whom I was living with. As we chatted she told me she was a volunteer with a group associated with the RCMP and they were looking for volunteers in Qualicum Beach. I thought it would be worth a try. After doing my stint there for over a year I moved to Parksville and transferred to that office, only this time I took the morning shift and learned to do "KIT" calls. I immediately became enamoured with this role and look forward every Thursday to my chats with these new friends. They are so happy to have these calls and I am equally happy to be doing them. I am so looking forward to our annual tea with our clients in August and the chance to meet them in person!
