Crime Watch Report - December 16 to 19, 2016

Detective1) 2016-11707 On December 16th, a theft of Canada Post property was reported to have occurred in the 100 block of Fairdowne Road in Qualicum Beach. The complainant advised that during the early morning hours culprits pried open the rural mail box located on Fairedowne Road and Alberni Highway. It appeared as though at least one mail slot was pried open and an undetermined amount of mail stolen.

2) 2016-11708 On December 16th, another theft of Canada Post property was reported to have occurred in the 200 block of Polegate Road in Qualicum Beach. The complainant advised that during the early morning hours culprits pried open the rural mail box located at Polegate Road and Alberni Highway. At least one mail slot was pried open and again it is unknown if any mail was stolen.

3) 2016-11740 On December 17th, a theft from vehicle was reported to have occurred in the 100 block of Middleton Avenue in Parksville. The complainant advised that at approximately 11:30 am culprits entered her unlocked vehicle and stole her black ‘Danier’ purse which contained various credit cards, personal identification and medical cards. All cards were cancelled immediately by the complainant.

4) 2016-11747 On December 17th, a theft from vehicle was reported to have occurred in the 500 block of Hall Road in Qualicum Beach. The complainant advised that in the morning she found the gas cap on her brother’s vehicle on the ground and a coat hanger jammed into the gas tank to keep the flap open. It appeared as though an undetermined amount of gas was syphoned from the vehicle.

5) 2016-11769 On December 18th, a mischief to vehicle was reported to have occurred in the 600 block of Morison Avenue in Parksville. The complainant advised that during the evening of December 17th, culprits keyed the entire length of her vehicle.

6) 2016-11777 On December 18th, a theft from vehicle was reported to have occurred on Alberni Highway at Hillier’s Road in Qualicum Beach. The complainant advised that during the evening culprits smashed her passenger side window and stole a pair of sunglasses valued at $300.00, a pair of weightlifting gloves, several charger cords, ear buds and a remote for a lamp.

7) 2016-11794 On December 19th, a theft from a business was reported to have occurred in the 800 block of Island Highway West in Parksville. The complainant advised that sometime during the early morning hours culprits broke into an exterior storage unit and stole approximately 30 recycled batteries. It appears a suspect(s) backed a truck up to the loading bay, cut the padlock and enter the unit and between 4:11 am and 4:33 am, made several trips back to the business to reload batteries. Because it was raining so hard it was not possible to positively identify the male or the license plate through surveillance.

8) 2016-11806 On December 19th, a theft from a business was reported to have occurred in the 100 block of Memorial Avenue in Qualicum Beach. The complainant advised that because of previous theft of electricity they installed exterior covers on their exterior electrical plugs at their business. Sometime between December 17th and 19th, culprits broke the plug covers off of the exterior plugs.

9) 2016-11870 On December 21st, a theft in progress was reported to have occurred in the 100 block of Moss Avenue in Parksville. At 2:50 am, the complainant was awoken by a noise and looked outside to see someone in his vehicle. He confronted the male who appeared to be quite intoxicated. A struggle ensued as the suspect attempted to flee. The complainant restrained the male until he calmed down but eventually let him go prior to police arrival. The male was last observed walking towards the old Parksville Elementary School. The male was described as approximately 5’10” tall, slim and First Nations.
