2021 Summer Counter Attack Impaired Driving Campaign has begun! Forty per cent of impaired driving related deaths occur during summer months in B.C. That’s why ICBC and police across the province are encouraging drivers to be responsible and plan ahead for a safe ride home.
Hosting a get together? Remember that you have responsibilities for your guests when you are serving intoxicants. There is no excuse for driving while impaired and BC has some significant penalties for drivers who make the wrong choice.
Each year on Canada Day, one person is killed and 180 injured in 650 crashes in B.C.
On average, 11 people are killed and 310 injured in 580 impaired driving related crashes on Vancouver Island every year.
Penalties may include:
- Driving suspension from 24 hours to 90 days
- Vehicle impoundment
- Fines $600 up to $4060
- Jail time
- Mandatory rehabilitation
- Installation of ignition interlock in vehicle
