Speedwatch Goes Back to School

SpeedwatchSpeedwatch volunteers Mike and James set up in the Nanoose Bay Elementary school zone at 7:30 a.m. this morning. By 10:00 a.m. they had checked approximately 600 vehicles.

According to the pair, public response has been excellent. Over 100 drivers expressed their appreciation in some manner and there have been no complaints. Everyone waved with all of their fingers!

Speed Watch / Cell Watch Data - January / February 2019

Exclamation SignFive combination Speed Watch and Cell Watch deployments were made by Oceanside Community Safety's Traffic Watch during the months of January and February, 2019. All of these deployments were conducted in school zones.

Of 1475 vehicles checked,  118 or 8% were traveling at more than 10 km/h over the posted speed limit with the highest deviation being 66 km/h in a 30 km/h zone. 8 drivers were observed doing some form of distracted driving.

Exclamation SignSeven combination Speed Watch and Cell Watch deployments were made by Oceanside Community Safety's Community Watch during the month of November, 2018. Of 7,803 vehicles checked,  502 or 6.4% were traveling at more than 10 km/h over the posted speed limit with the highest deviation being 88 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. 76 drivers were observed doing some form of distracted driving.

Of 9.031 vehicles checked,  358 or 4% were traveling at more than 10 km/h over the posted speed limit with the highest deviation being 81 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. 91 drivers were observed doing some form of distracted driving.

Of 24.480 vehicles checked,  564 or 2.5% were traveling at more than 10 km/h over the posted speed limit with the highest deviation being 75 km/h in a 30 km/h zone. 264 drivers were observed doing some form of distracted driving.
